Dear Fellow 90th Gala Guest:

We have consulted with numerous parties with regard to COVID-19, or the coronavirus, including The Consulate General of Japan in Chicago, The Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Chicago, JETRO, and the Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH), and we have had extensive internal discussions. Our first priority for the evening is the health and well-being of our guests. We have reached the conclusion that it is in the best interest of our guests to reschedule the 90th Anniversary Gala celebration to a date later in the year. We will wait until the impact of the virus on the Chicago community is better defined before scheduling the new date for the event.

Unless we hear from you otherwise, we will assume that all current registrations will be deferred until the new date has been set. If you would like a refund of your paid dinner reservation now, or at the time that the new date is set, please contact the Japan America Society of Chicago office at for a full refund.

No one is more disappointed than I for having to take this action. The committee and staff have worked extremely hard for the last year to prepare for this event. But again, our first priority is the health and safety of our members and guests and given the current state of uncertainty around the COVID-19 virus we have reached this painful but necessary conclusion.

Best regards,

Dave Johnson
