George Kazuo Ichishita

George Kazuo Ichishita of Lincolnwood passed away peacefully at the age of 77 on September 8, 2019. He was the beloved husband of Dianne Ichishita (Hikida); loving father of Heather Nobuhata (Marc) and Kristin Park (Andy); cherished grandpa of Alyssa, Kyle, Sophie, and Kaitlyn; dear brother of Doug, Faith, David, and Elaine; and loyal friend of many.

George was born on November 11, 1941 in San Francisco. He and his parents, George Susumu Ichishita and Haru (Inano), were interned during WWII at Heart Mountain, Wyoming. After the war, the Ichishita family relocated to Chicago.

George graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in mechanical engineering and later received his MBA at Northwestern University. In 1968, he and Dianne married and later had two daughters named Heather and Kristin.

George was curious in nature and explored all that life had to offer. He was an avid learner and was constantly reading up on topics ranging from health and nutrition to history. He especially loved nature, music, and animals. He enjoyed traveling and aspired to visit and hike in as many national parks as possible. George remained active for his entire life. In his early years, he played tennis and basketball, and completed 18 marathons and 1 triathlon. In his later years, he discovered his love of line dancing, dancing four times a week.

George will be remembered for being a dedicated and loyal friend, shown by his many long lasting friendships. He settled into his role as Grandpa Jun nicely, being known for his humor and playfulness. His legacy lives on, as many of his passions have been passed on to his wife, daughters, and four grandchildren. Because he touched people’s hearts and lives so deeply, he leaves a lasting memory in the lives of many.
