Betty Hiroko Yoshioka

Betty was born Shinto in Tacoma, Washington on September 15, 1922 to Sachi and Mitsuo Fukuhara. She grew up in the Baptist religion. Soon after High School graduation, World War II began, she was incarcerated in Tule Lake and Minidoka. While in Tule Lake, she met her lifelong love, Masuo Yoshioka and in 1946, after release from Tule Lake, married Masuo in Chicago and became Buddhist under Rev. Kubose. They raised their family in Hyde Park/Kenwood.
She lived her life “adopting” people she met into her family of five biological children, Michiye Jane (Morishige), Ronald Hiroshi, Russell Mitsumi, Sachiye Julia (Beregsasy) and Jean Setsuyo (Lindsay).
Betty was with Anderson’s Giftcraft as a gold stamper and became a florist with Cornell, Mitzie and Cho’s Flowers. She transitioned to an official Angel on Nov. 21, 2019. Many people will miss her cards and big hugs, especially her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
