Learn to Make Japanese Sweets - Autumn Nerikiri (Online Workshop)
Hosted by Japanese American Service Committee
Learn how to make Autumn-themed Nerikiri with Wagashi Master, Toshiko Sugii Steffes.
Attendees will make colorful Chrysanthemum designs of Nerikiri sweets.
This design is called “Kisewata(着せ綿)” and is a special design for “Chō yō no sekku(重陽の節句)” which means chrysanthemums celebrations or longevity celebration on September 9th. Chrysanthemums are believed to have the power to purge evil spirits and bring longevity in Japan.
Nerikiri was originally made to be served in the Japanese tea ceremony. Nerikiri is made by mixing and kneading the ingredients white butter bean paste and mochi rice cake.
