“Melanated and Animated” is a unique event that highlights the intersections of Black and Japanese culture. Presented by the Japanese Arts Foundation and supported by the Logan Theatre, Anime Chicago, House of Suntory, and I Play Games, this event brings together a diverse group of industry guests for a panel discussion exploring the ways in which Black and Japanese cultures have influenced each other. Following the panel discussion, attendees can enjoy a private screening of the director’s cut of the critically acclaimed anime series Afro Samurai. It’s an excellent opportunity to learn more about the fascinating connections between these two cultures and celebrate their contributions to art, media, and entertainment. In addition to the film screening and panel, this event will feature complimentary House of Suntory highballs, original artwork poster by manga artist Kofi Bazzel-Smith , music by Lost in Kyoto, and onsite gaming courtesy of I Play Games!
